If you had to describe 2017 in one word, what would it be? For some this may be easy. Maybe you experienced something so great you could easily sum up the year in a single word. You might remember this year for some exciting accomplishment. Or maybe you were struck by such a tremendous blow that you’d like to forget the year altogether.
Most of us, however, simply surrender control of the fate of our year. If we’re not careful, we can allow our year to be shaped by a series of random events, circumstances, or even by other people. We often ramble through the months unintentionally, or we allow our lives to become so cluttered that our out-of-control schedules begin to control us.
Enter the “One Word” concept.
The One Word concept is the idea of simplifying your life by focusing on one single word for the entire year and living life more intentionally. But, there’s a catch. You don’t choose your word. God gives it to you.
You can get a sample of how God can use One Word to change your life in this
4-day devotional written by Jon Gordon, Dan Britton, and Jimmy Page, the authors of the book One Word That Will Change Your Life.
We practiced the concept earlier this year at our Untangle Retreat. Every woman who attended received her One Word from God. It was an incredible experience and our words have shaped this year for each of us. We’re planning another Untangle Retreat late next spring. You can learn more about the retreat here, or you can order the book and go through the process on your own. We highly recommend it. It’s a game-changer!

I have an odd combination of professional backgrounds: marketing and landscaping. That strange combination, along with my Christian faith, led me to begin Nir Ministries, where I offer speaking services and sell the books I've written.
In 2016 I traveled with a small group on a mission trip to South Africa that set me on a new course and changed my life in a way I never dreamed. As a result I now partner with Rebecca Lee and Kelly Lewis in CTS Ministries, where we facilitate Interfaith Christian Women's Retreats.
